Doug started his business career in a sporting goods store in Pittsburgh. He started his consulting career in the early 80's with a well known search firm in Los Angeles and started Sawyer TMS several years later. Early clients included Japanese Banks and manufacturing companies in need of executive leadership.

For most of the 90's he lived and worked in Japan and created a global recruitment function for a firm with offices in Osaka and Tokyo. This experience was the basis for his international executive search practice which thrives today. Upon returning from Japan, Doug did consulting engagements for a variety of manufacturing firms whose chaotic growth launched projects in talent management and included work in succession planning, benchmarking, managing conflict, organizational development, and staffing.

Doug was afforded the opportunity to create a first ever corporate staffing function for a 100 year old insurance company. He put strategies in place that lead to the development of a full blown internal consultancy that served more than 30 business units in the US and Canada. His staff went on to make more than 200 executive placements annually. He also created the company's first Diverse Workforce strategy which is the basis for the company's current function. He negotiated a series of vendor contracts that reeled in a maverick spend and saved millions while increasing vendor service levels.

Over the last 12 years, Doug has worked with a number of diversity staffing initiatives for major retailers. He designed and managed community outreach programs that linked the disabled workforce to career opportunities with great success. These projects became a launching board for what Doug considers his passion, leading employers to discover the special abilities of job seekers with disabling conditions. Doug has made a professional commitment to including employment support for those with disabilities in his consulting work with Sawyer TMS. Currently, Doug writes for Say Special Ability and Talent Manager's Journal on Word Press and is the creator and editor of the popular website StrategicDiversity.com.

Doug is the founder and Executive Director of  Say Special Ability Foundation. An awareness group that promotes employment opportunities for those with disabling conditions. Doug is a member of the National Board of Directors of the Sierra Group Foundation's One More Way project and a past officer of WEET Las Vegas. WEET is a partnership of Nevada's  Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, The Veteran's Administration, and private industry in Nevada. These organizations seek to inform employers about the special abilities of those with disabling conditions and works to reduce the shocking unemployment rate of the disabled.  Doug also actively supports the workforce re-entry efforts of a group of homeless US Veterans who are seeking employment opportunities in Las Vegas and has held more than 100  Resume & Interview Coaching Workshops as a way to give back to the Las Vegas community.
